Another unfortunate incident happened in Lagos, where a 22-year-old man, Eji Emmanuel, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for the alleged m*rder of a 39-year-old trader, Sylvanus Okoye. According to the police, the suspect st*bbed the deceased to d*ath at his home on Ezemegbu Drive, Okota in August. The suspect, however, explained that he k*lled the deceased in self-defence. He alleged that on the day of the incident, Okoye had attempted to r*pe him.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday became indisposed in far away London where he was scheduled to preside over the meeting of Nigeria’s Honorary International Investors’ Council. His Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, made this known in a statement he made available to journalists in Abuja. Abati said the President, who turned 56 on Wednesday, had since been examined by competent medical practitioners. He added that Jonathan was advised by his doctors to rest for a few days. Abati neither disclosed the nature of the ailment nor the duration of the resting period. He assured Nigerians that Jonathan’s medical condition was “nothing serious,” adding that the medical attention he sought was only “precautionary.” His statement reads, “In the course of his ongoing visit to London for a meeting of Nigeria’s Honorary International Investors’ Council, President Goodluck Jonathan became indisposed and could not be present at the opening of the meeting today (on Thursday). “President Jonathan has since been examined by competent medical practitioners. It was mourning all the way as chiefs and residents of Ilashe Ijesa in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State on Thursday narrated how the monach of the town, Oba Adesina Anibijuwon, was k*lled by suspected members of Odua People’s Congress, who allegedly strangled him and left his corpse inside his residence which they set ablaze. It was a shocking moment along the Lagos Island road called Ajah, a busy road that link several areas. A tanker driver ran over 5 young pupils and k*lled them on the spot. At that same time, the area boys popularly called "Alaye" and passers-by were clashing with policemen after the trailer crushed five students as they were crossing the road. The incident happened close to Ikota Primary School and the d-ad pupils are believed to be making their way to the school when they were k*lled. The tanker driver abandoned his truck and escaped. The two express lanes have been blocked by the angry protesters which has caused heavy traffic in the area. There's heavy police presence in the area.

It was an incredible scene in Ekiti, when five(5) g*nmen, suspected to be ritualists on Sunday invaded the government hospital in Ado-Ekiti, demanding for new born babies. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the g*nmen who were said to be numbering about five, arrived at the hospital at about 1am demanding for a day old babies, and beating up staff who could not give satisfactory answer. A senior health officer, who pleaded anonymity, said that the a*med men invaded the hospital located along Irona area at about 1am and suddenly began molesting medical officials on night duty.

The Lagos State Government says it would begin enforcement of a section of the road traffic law which restricts commuter bus drivers from driving for more than eight hours at a stretch daily. A market survey by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) showed that the product was being sold at between N110 and N140 per liter as against the official pump price of N50 sold at the NNPC Mega Station in Awka. Some attendants at independent filling stations visited said the high cost of kerosene was due to non-availability of the product to dealers. Mr Ifeanyi Nwamuo, an attendant with Total Filling Station at Ukwuoji, Awka, said that the product had not been supplied to the station in many months.
